Meet Graham

Graham established his practice in 2017, running it as a part-time practice while maintaining his full-time job. Initially projects were undertaken for family and friends, and then soon friends of friends.  Graham's dedicated work ethic and ability to communicate complex subjects was a key element which contributed to him being recommended to others.

Graham has always had strong feelings about the impact the construction industry can have on the environment and how through the careful choice of materials, that impact can be significantly reduced. This philosophy has become central to his practice, guiding him towards low-impact, sustainable design solutions that don't compromise on quality or character.

Wherever possible, Graham works with clients to specify materials that are renewable, responsibly sourced, or reclaimed; timber from certified sustainable forestry, natural insulation such as sheep's wool or wood fibre, and lime-based products in place of cement where appropriate. He pays close attention to embodied carbon as well as operational efficiency, recognising that a truly sustainable dwelling has to perform well over its whole lifecycle, not just once the occupants have moved in. This means thinking carefully about airtightness, thermal performance, and passive design from the earliest stages of a project, so that buildings require less energy to heat and cool for decades to come.

Graham is equally mindful of a building's relationship to its site, favouring designs that work with existing landscapes and microclimates rather than against them, minimising unnecessary excavation and disturbance, and specifying materials that will age gracefully and require little ongoing maintenance. For Graham, sustainable design isn't an add-on or a marketing point; it's simply good, considered building practice, and it has become a defining thread running through every project his practice takes on.
